After 4 films with Woody the sheriff, Buzz Lightyear is back on the big screen in Pixar’s latest animated film, Lightyear. The film will be released in the US on June 17, 2022 at local cinema networks.
Ever since Lightyear was announced on Disney Investors Day by Pixar’s Chief Creative Officer, Pete Docter, fans have been looking forward to joining Buzz on a journey through space. Especially after it was revealed that Captain America’s actor, Chris Evans, would voice the legendary character. Apart from Evans, several big names, such as Keke Palmer, Taika Waititi, and James Brolin also enlivened this Toy Story spinoff film.
Lightyear was directed by a Pixar veteran who had co-directed Finding Dory, Angus MacLane. This film is MacLane’s debut as a feature-length solo director. In his first feature-length film, the Pixar veteran will focus on the story of Buzz Lightyear, not as a toy, but as a real space ranger.

Lightyear Storyline
Buzz Lightyear’s (Chris Evans) space mission goes awry when he makes an enormous mistake. As a result, he and his crew were marooned on an alien planet for one year. They continue to look for solutions to get out of the planet persistently. Their hard work paid off in the form of hyper-speed flight. To test the flight, Buzz was chosen as the pilot to fly the plane. Commander Alisha Hawthorne (Uzo Aduba) only allows Buzz to fly for 4 minutes.
After takeoff, Buzz attempts to innitiate the hyper-speed feature on the plane and experiences a time distortion. When the plane made an emergency landing, Buzz realized that he had spent many years on the flight he was on just now. He’s trying to return to his original time and is accompanied by several friends: Sox (Peter Sohn), Buzz’s robot cat; Izzy Hawthorne (Keke Palmer), granddaughter of Alisha Hawthorne; and Darby Steel (Dale Soules) and Mo Morrison (Taika Waititi), Izzy’s teammates. Buzz’s journey home is filled with obstacles, especially with the appearance of Zurg (James Brolin) and his troops.
