TikTok has successfully overtaken YouTube and Netflix as the first social media platform to launch an official app for Apple Vision Pro, a spatial computing headset newly released by Apple in early February 2024.
Apple Vision Pro is a device that combines virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technologies to create a spatial computing experience. The device is priced starting from USD 3,499.
However, when Apple Vision Pro officially launched, it turned out that the headset was still lacking in built-in apps. One of them is YouTube, Google’s video-sharing platform, which is still not officially available on the App Store for Vision Pro.
The same applies to Netflix, a popular video streaming platform, which has also not yet released their official app for Apple’s headset.
Taking advantage of this momentum, TikTok moved quickly to release their official app for Apple Vision Pro. TikTok is a social media platform that allows users to create and watch short videos with various themes, such as music, comedy, education, and more.
With the presence of TikTok on Apple Vision Pro, users can enjoy immersive content and video streaming from millions of TikTok creators worldwide. Users can also create their own videos using special features provided by the TikTok app for the headset.
Apple Vision Pro users can now download the TikTok app to their headsets. The app is available for free on the App Store.
Apple Vision Pro Returned by Some Consumers
Meanwhile, Apple Vision Pro received mixed responses from consumers, some of whom returned the product after purchasing it at the Apple Store and using it for a while.
Apple does allow consumers to return their products within 14 days of purchase. Citing information from The Verge on Thursday (15/2/2024), the first wave of consumers who bought Apple Vision Pro reportedly have already returned the product.
Comfort is said to be the reason they chose to return the headset. Some consumers mentioned that they returned the product due to the effects after using it. Some complained of dizziness to the point of causing effects like motion sickness.
In addition, the weight of the Apple headset, which is quite heavy, is said to be another reason. Then, there are some users who complained about the effects of using this headset causing eye irritation. Interestingly, besides the experience and effects after use, some consumers also mentioned that the function and price given are comparable.
Mark Zuckerberg Tries Apple Vision Pro and Compares It with Quest 3
On the other hand, Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, is also known to have tried Apple Vision Pro directly. Meta is the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Threads, which focuses on VR and AR technologies.
Zuckerberg not only tried Apple Vision Pro, but also compared it with Quest 3, a VR headset made by his company. Quest 3 is a device that offers a wireless VR experience at a price of USD 499.
In a 3-minute 40-second video uploaded to his Instagram account on Wednesday (14/2/2024), Zuckerberg said two positive things about Apple’s headset. He praised the screen resolution and eye-tracking capabilities of Apple Vision Pro, which he thinks are better than Quest 3.
However, he also criticized its high price and lack of support for productivity. He believes that Quest 3 offers better value and is a better product, period.
“After using it, I don’t just think Quest offers better value and is a better product, period,” said Zuckerberg.
